Susan Ashdown

Susan Ashdown is a leading member of the Cornell Body Scan Research Group. She directs a research program in the areas of anthropometrics, the sizing and fit of apparel, fit preference, the perception of fit, and the development and use of new technologies in the apparel industry. The acquisition of a 3D body scanner, thanks to the generosity of alumna Rebecca Quinn Morgan, has increased the potential of this research program. Professor Ashdown is co-principal investigator of a research project using 3D body scanning data to improve apparel sizing systems as part of her research program. She teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in draping, product development, computer-aided design, apparel sizing and fit, the relationship between materials and design, and technology and design. Professor Ashdown earned a B.A. from Grinnell College, an M.A. from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.

Suzanne Loker

Suzanne Loker is a leading member of the Cornell Body Scan Research Group. She is co-principal investigator of a research project using 3D body scan data to improve apparel sizing systems as part of her research program on mass customization and technology innovation and management in the apparel industry. Professor Loker teaches courses on apparel production and management and design entrepreneurship. She also works closely with industry, directing Cornell’s Apparel Industry Outreach program which develops and delivers educational materials and programs for apparel and sewn products businesses and prospective entrepreneurs. Professor Loker earned a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin, an M.A. from Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. from Kansas State.

Katherine Schoenfelder

Katherine Schoenfelder is the project manager for the National Textile Center funded Body Scan Research project at Cornell University in the College of Human Ecology. Her interests involve various aspects of computation, design systems, and creative thought. She received a B.S. in operations research and industrial engineering from Cornell University in 1995. Since then, she has worked in the fields of business systems and analysis, architectural photography, and architectural design. She has taken graduate courses in architecture at Rice University in Houston and is currently finishing her Master of Fine Arts part-time at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, N.Y. Starting August 2003, she will be a Guest Suite Artist in Residence at the Risley Residential College for the Creative and Performing Arts on the Cornell University campus.

Adriana Petrova

Adriana Petrova earned a graduate degree in apparel design at Cornell University in 2003. Her interests are in the area of apparel fit, sizing, patternmaking and drafting automation, and mass customization. Her current research focuses on incorporating advances in 3D body scan technology into the apparel design and manufacturing process. Her thesis project examines the description of fit for different body shapes and sizes for lower body garments. Petrova has earned a B.S. degree in Physics from Sofia University, Bulgaria, and an M.A. degree in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin.

Lora S. Cowie

|
Lora Cowie earned a B.S. in human and consumer sciences with an emphasis on fashion and retail merchandising from Ohio University in 1993, and an M.S. in textiles and clothing from the Ohio State University in 2001. Her research areas of interest include body scanning, consumer behavior, brand names and product symbolism, social responsibility, and sport clothing. In addition to her academic research interests, Cowie has previous experience working in the corporate retail industry and currently works in the field of project management in Washington, D.C.
